Primary Access

Primary access to the Yellow Hills Ranch property is along NM State Road 112. The main entrance is at mile marker 39.10, and a secondary entrance is planned at approximately mile marker 40.5. Both these locations are marked on the Development Area Aerial photograph here, and another link to a map showing the main roads at the Ranch.

Roads

We anticipate three types of roads within Yellow Hills Ranch. They include:

  • MAIN ARTERIES: These are the main roads that circulate traffic and provide access to residential areas and the main roads that travel through the main or secondary gate.
  • LOCAL ACCESS: These roads will provide access to a neighborhood, and will usually dead end there. They provide no through traffic.
  • RANCH ROADS: Much of the Ranch will remain open space and a working Ranch where animals will be grazed (see project page). These will be unimproved dirt roads common to any ranch. Some will be graded to manage surface water and erosion as required to improve the way the ranch processes surface water.

Throughout Yellow Hills Ranch roads will be used as part of the aquifer recharge and catchment plan. The aim is to manage surface water related to roads to build the underground aquifer and incorporate other catchment strategies to extend water resources and maintain the underground aquifer.

Utility Easements

Easements will be provided in a right-of-way along roads as required to provide utility service.  In cases where utilities run other than along the road, an appropriate easement will be surveyed and recorded.

Fire Prevention

Fire Department Access

Fire department access into the property will be through the main gate at mile marker 39.10 or a planned secondary entrance at mile marker 40.5. The main arteries and local access roads will each be large enough to handle fire equipment to the site of each improvement. Please see road map showing the main arteries and entrances.

Fire Suppression

The main roads and the local access roads will each be improved to allow fire equipment and larger utility vehicles to access the area with room to turn around or loop back to the main road.

If there is a community water system serving a portion of residences or improvements, fire hydrants or other access for fire equipment will be installed simultaneously to meet the need for fire suppression. Here are more details.
